When you’re headed out for a rigorous bike ride, denim might not be your first choice for clothing. However, Levi’s® is manipulating that mentality with the new Commuter line of cycling apparel.
The popular 511™ Skinny Jean and Trucker Jacket have both been optimized for the needs of the urban commuter cyclist.
“As an avid cyclist myself, I am confident this line has all of the key cycling-specific performance features cyclists value, but haven't been able to find in other lifestyle clothing options,” said Erik Joule, senior vice president of Levi’s Men’s Merchandising & Design.
One feature is the Sanitized™ hygiene function, which provides protection against odors for long-lasting freshness and comfort. Another is the 3M Scotchlite™ which subtly integrates 300,000 candle watt reflectivity into key areas of the garments.
Also, Levi's partnered with Swiss-based Schoeller Technologies AG to be the first to introduce NanoSphere® treatment into denim fabric, making it water resistant, dirt repellant and more durable.
The Skinny Jean ($78) also features a higher back rise for additional coverage, a utility waist band to carry a U-lock, and fabric reinforcements in high stress areas.
The Trucker Jacket ($128) has extra utility pockets, elongated cuffs, accordion sleeves, and an iPod front pocket.
Commuter clothing is now available at select independent bike shops in major metro cities, at Levi’s stores, and online. It will also be sold at select Urban Outfitters starting in August.
