Plenty of hotels offer fully equipped fitness centers for those that like to keep to shape while on vacations or business trips. However, Westin Hotels & Resorts is taking it a stair-step further with their free Gear-Lending Program, which just launched yesterday.
Ladies can borrow capri pants, a sports bra, shirt, socks, and sneakers, while men get a shirt, shorts, socks, and shoes. Would you be creeped out wearing clothes (especially socks!) that thousands of other strangers have heavily sweated in? Of course the hotel claims they are hot water washing all of the clothing items in between uses and say most people are completely comfortable with the concept.
"Running socks aren't very intimate compared with bed sheets and towels," says Jenn Blazejewski, a 31-year-old management consultant, who is a daily runner and four-day-a-week traveler.
Westin isn't the first to experiment with similar hotel amenities. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts also recently launched a Gear-Lending Program, but only to frequent guests and for a small fee. Westin provides this service to every guest, for no extra charge.
A handy info card in each room announces "New Balance now provides Westin guests with shoes and athletic wear. Simply call for delivery to your room." New Balance and Westin are sharing the costs of program, which will be available in 174 hotels and resorts worldwide.
