12 to 18 percent of motorcycling enthusiasts are women and the numbers keep growing. Edward Winterhalder and Wil De Clercq chose to shine their Harleys' headlights on 22 females who are at the forefront of the remarkable culture of women motorcyclists with their book, Biker Chicz of North America.
"Our original intention was to focus on mainstream women motorcycle riders who are more or less the average girl next door … but somehow we ended up with women whom we consider to belong to the current royalty of North American female bikers. The only criteria we were looking for was that they had inspiring stories to tell and that they rode a Harley-Davidson," says Winterhalder.
Each chapter tells the story of a successful, intelligent, free thinking, adventurous, risk taking, creative, inspiring, and tenacious woman.
Next week, at the Sturgis Rally in Rapid City, South Dakota, several of the featured ladies will be autographing copies, such as Gevin Fax, Betsy Huelskamp, Pepper Massey, Meg McDonough, Vicki Sanfelipo, Cris Sommer Simmons, Gina Woods, and Gloria Struck.
