Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt is the new face of Chanel No. 5, the French brand announced on Wednesday.
"Chanel has selected world renowned actor Brad Pitt to be the face of the upcoming advertising campaign for Chanel No.5," Chanel announced via Twitter.
The company declined to provide any additional details about the selection or respond to inquiries about whether Brad’s new role means a male version of the iconic perfume is in the works. Pitt will be the first man to market the fragrance.
Former Chanel No. 5 representatives include Catherine Deneuve, Nicole Kidman, and Vanessa Paradis. Marilyn Monroe also loved the perfume, admitting in a 1953 interview that she wore nothing in bed but a splash of the designer fragrance.
According to the AFP, the French website Daily ELLE reports that a male version of Chanel No. 5 is set to launch within the next few months.
Launched by French fashion designer Coco Chanel in 1922, Chanel No. 5 is one of the most famous perfumes in the world. If a male version of No. 5 is truly in the works, then it only makes sense to have one of the most famous actors in the world introduce it to the public.
Brad Pitt, 48, has starred in such films as Legends of the Fall, Seven, Fight Club, Ocean’s Twelve, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Inglorious Basterds, and Moneyball, among others. He recently proposed to his girlfriend of many years, Angelina Jolie. The couple has six children.
