It’s a sad day when the eating disorders that are already recognized aren’t enough – a new one has evolved, one that describes women who order huge portions of food while they’re out with others, but who also dramatically restrict their eating while they’re by themselves. These women can now be referred to as liarexics – a term that the Daily Mail coined.

Obesity Rates in America Continue to Rise

Americans keep getting fatter and fatter. According to a a report released by Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 16 states saw a rise in obesity rates and 12 states are now plagued with an obesity rate of at least 30%.

"These numbers signal an emergency, and we simply have to have the courage and resolve to do more than what we're doing,” Kelly D. Brownell, director of Yale University's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity told The Los Angeles Times. Brownell is not associated with the recent report.

Studies Show the Risks of Leading a Sedentary Lifestyle

Prefer sitting on the couch to cycling through city streets? You’re not alone. However, according to recent studies outlined by the Naples Daily News, a sedentary lifestyle can be life threatening at best and life ending at worst.

Studies have shown that a sedentary lifestyle, one that lacks the recommended 30 minutes of moderate exercise per week, is as harmful to a person as smoking cigarettes. Americans who spend the majority of the day sitting on their rumps (all 40 to 50 million of them), are susceptible to a variety of health problems including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and premature death.

Study: Five Cups of Coffee a Day Keeps Alzheimer’s Disease at Bay

Is there anything coffee can’t do? Studies have shown that the popular caffeinated beverage can reduce a woman’s chance of stroke, reduce the risk of breast cancer, and help women perform better in stressful situations. And according to a new study, coffee might also help ward off Alzheimer’s disease.

"We found that caffeinated coffee has some rather astounding additions to caffeine that provide protection against cognitive impairment,” said lead co-author Gary Arendash of the Florida Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.

Are you one of those people who enjoy staying up until the wee hours of the night and then sleeping in the next day? According to a new study, you’re at risk for gaining weight.

"When the sun goes down you are supposed to be sleeping, not eating," said Dr. Phyllis Zee, a professor of neurology and director of the Sleep and Circadian Rhythms Research Program at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. “When sleep and eating are not aligned with the body's internal clock, it can lead to changes in appetite and metabolism, which could lead to weight gain."

Botox May Make Users Unable to Judge Others’ Emotions

We’ve already suspected that when people use Botox or other muscle-relaxing/freezing injectables, we might have a hard time deciphering what they’re feeling. Now, researchers at USC and Duke have compared subjects treated with Botox, Restylane, and a special gel that intensifies muscle signals.  Researchers showed each group pictures of faces and asked them to identify the emotions they saw. People treated with Botox were worse at figuring out peoples’ facial emotions. Why?
