If you’re one of the many women who has enjoyed getting a Brazilian Blowout at your local salon, you’re kind of out of luck now – as of today, the products used for the procedure will likely be seized by the FDA, who previously reported that the products contain dangerous levels of formaldehyde – which can cause sore throat, skin irritation, headaches, chest pain, and rashes. The levels of formaldehyde found in the products rival those typically used in funeral embalming.

Nearly 300 workers fell ill last week at a factory in Cambodia that produces garments for the Swedish company H&M, police said. 284 workers collapsed last Tuesday and Thursday of last week – with some reporting a pungent smell just prior to fainting.
“Workers smelled something bad coming from the shirts,” said 26-year-old Norn Leakhena, who works at the factory. The mass fainting is being blamed on the “weak” health of the workers and the factory has suspended operations temporarily to give the employees, some 4,000 workers, time to rest.

Astronomers have spotted an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond. Hold the phone. An entire PLANET made out of diamonds??
The new planet is far denser than any other known so far, and consists largely of carbon. Because it is so dense, scientists have calculated that the carob must be crystalline – so a large part of it would effectively be considered diamond.

Christian Louboutin, the women’s shoe designer responsible for the oft-coveted red-soled shoes, has been in a heated legal battle with fashion house Yves Saint Laurent since April. Louboutin’s lawyers have argued that YSL’s 2011 Cruise collection, which includes red-soled high heels, infringe on a 2008 patent. However, a New York judge denied that claim, saying, “Louboutin’s claim to ‘the color red’ is, without some limitation, overly broad and inconsistent with the scene of trademark registration.”
Generally speaking, American law states that colors can only be trademarks if they serve – and only serve – to identify the source of a product. This rationale allowed Tiffany & Co. to own the color trademark of Pantone 1837 – “Tiffany Blue.”

A new study conducted by Spanish scientists suggests that grapes, and thus red wine, contain compounds known as flavonoids that block chemical changes in the body that are associated with skin damage from the sun. The study, which was published in the May 11 issue of the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, says that the flavonoids help prevent the skin from forming “reactive oxygen species.”

Is beer too masculine for you to enjoy knocking back a few cold ones every now and then? Two of the world’s biggest brewers, Molson Coors and Carlsberg, are guessing that’s the problem with their lagging sales, and have taken aim at women in hopes for higher profits.

The U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority has pulled two L’Oreal ads that feature Christy Turlington and Julia Roberts, stating that they are overly-airbrushed.
Jo Swinson, a liberal Democrat member of parliament who has waged a long-running campaign against “overly perfected and unrealistic images” of women in advertisements, filed a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority about the magazine campaigns run by Lancome and Maybelline, which are owned by L’Oreal.
The ASA ruled that both ads broke the standards code for exaggeration and being misleading. The ads have since been banned from future publication.

When you go grocery shopping, chances are you’re either a cart-pusher or a basket-carrier. I tend to be a basket-carrier, but apparently, there’s a difference in what grocery-goers buy depending on their chosen method of shopping.
According to a recent study printed in the Journal of Marketing Research, shoppers who pushed a cart instead of carrying a basket tended to make better food choices. Researchers watched 136 people as they shopped for groceries and found that those who carried baskets were three times more likely to choose unhealthy foods. Why?

It’s a sad day when the eating disorders that are already recognized aren’t enough – a new one has evolved, one that describes women who order huge portions of food while they’re out with others, but who also dramatically restrict their eating while they’re by themselves. These women can now be referred to as liarexics – a term that the Daily Mail coined.
