In your single days how many countless hours did you spend at the gym to stay in shape, slim and attractive? We tend to work out more when we are single so that we are more physically attractive to the other sex.

Once we get married, the gym doesn’t always stay a habit. It’s easy to become complacent and ignore the waistline expansion. Some call that post wedding weight gain “ happy weight “. But, that happy weight comes with a host of issues that you may not want to invite into your happily ever after.

Fellows, if your wife tosses and turns at night you may be in for a few fights. According to a new study, women who suffer from insomnia tend to have more negative interactions with their spouse and this often means trouble for a couple’s marriage.

“Sleep disturbance and deprivation has profound effects on mood, irritability, and frustration tolerance,” said the study’s lead author, Wendy Troxel, an assistant professor of psychiatry and psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. “And the person you’re most likely to take it out on is not your boss or some random person, but your spouse.”

While one might think a hectic job would put strain on a marriage, a new study has found that working women are actually happier with their marriages when they are shouldering heavy loads at work.

So what is it about a busy job that makes working moms happier? Researchers think the answer may be as simple as men help out more around the house when their wives are busy. A hectic job “may liberate wives from some of the burdens of juggling the two worlds of work and family life, increasing their satisfaction with the marriage,” says the study by researchers at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and the University of California, Los Angeles. The four-year study of 169 couples was recently published in the Journal of Family Psychology.

Census reports later marriage, more long-lasting marriages

Newly-released census data has shown that among people in their late 20s, a higher proportion of people have never been married. In 1986, the first year that marriage data was collected by the Census, 73% of people between the ages of 25 and 29 had been married at some point. As of 2009, however, that number is 53%.

The reasons are easy to identify: many people are choosing to get married later on in life, and society is more accepting these days of couples living together without being married.

According to a recent study in Canada, many married couples today are bored with wedded life and this boredom threatens the success of their relationship.

"If a close relationships researcher were to approach people on the street and ask, “What is the major obstacle to lasting love?”, we suspect that the most frequent answers would be “conflict”, “betrayal”, “selfishness” and the like,” said researcher Beverley Fehr of the University of Winnipeg in Canada. “We would be quite surprised if anyone replied “boredom” and yet that may be the correct answer.”

Forget the seven-year itch. According to a new study, couples start growing bored with one another after just three years. Call it the "three year glitch."

While men and women in the past have viewed marriage as a social contract that one must stick to no matter what, a recent article in The New York Times suggests that today’s married couples want, and expect, more from their marriage. Sticking it out for the sake of children, money, society, etc. simply doesn’t cut it anymore.
